Review: Meat Your Maker 1.5 HP Meat Grinder

When I set out to find a commercial-grade grinder, I wasn’t familiar with the brand Meat Your Maker. This led to some initial hesitancy and a lot of research comparing against other well-known brands.

Ultimately, I pulled the trigger on a Meat Your Maker 1.5 HP Meat Grinder.

What I Needed

I decided when I purchased a new grinder that nothing less than 1 HP would do. You can go with less power on a grinder and successfully make sausage, but my goal was to go with power and capacity to:

  • Reduce prep time cutting small pieces
  • Reduce process time by more quickly grinding meat before it warms and becomes harder to work with
  • Extend the life span of a grinder by replacing less burned out motors

My Take on the 1.5 HP Meat Your Maker Meat Grinder

The Meat Your Maker 1.5 HP Meat Grinder is a commercial-grade grinder with the following specs:

  • 1.5 Horsepower Motor
  • #32 Throat
  • Stainless Steel Attachments
  • 18lbs/min grind speeds
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty

Where It Shines

Horsepower for Days

This grinder is unparalleled by any grinder I’ve ever had the opportunity to use. It’s 1.5 horsepower motor turns what is often a laborious task into a race to keep up with motor as you quickly throw chunks of meat down the throat.

Spoiler alert, you will lose this race. You will not be able to keep up.

Large Throat

If your are going fast, you are going to need a large throat. The #32 throat is large enough to handle as many chunks of meat as you can throw down it.

High Quality Fit and Finish

This grinder is just good looking…the white color, black lettering and thick, quality stainless steel parts affirms its quality. It’s good looking and best of all, durable.

Reverse Included

Another plus is that in addition to the forward gear, it also has a reverse gear should you find some way to clog the thing…like accidentally attempting to grind an entire femur.

Points to Consider

Large Grinding Area

If you are grinding small quantities often, this might not be the best choice given the size of the grinding assembly. A pound of meat could easily fit in the throat which would be problematic for small batch sizes. It would work, but likely wouldn’t be efficient.

Hefty Weight

Given the machine is a high-quality, commercial grinder, it carries some serious weight. Just be mindful that it is heavy and will take up space in the kitchen.

Spot Welded Guard

I don’t love the welded on guard, but absolutely believe it is necessary. Given the size of the throat, you could easily grind up a hand.

Conclusion

With this grinder, a good sausage stuffer and some determination, you can easily save a bundle skipping the deer processor in the future and process you own game.

Every avid outdoorsman would benefit from having this in their kitchen.
